Champdieu is a commune in the Loire department in central France. The village developed around a Benedictine priory, established in the 9th or 10th century. The priory church and three sides of the adjacent cloister have been preserved. The commune is situated in the Massif central, on the border of the plaine du Forez, and is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The area offers a mix of plain and mountainous landscapes, with the Monts du Forez to the west and the plaine du Forez to the east. Visitors can explore the nearby towns of Ambert, Olliergues, and Saint-Etienne, which offer a range of historical and cultural attractions.
