Col des Fours

Mountain pass Beaufort, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France

What to expect

Col des Fours is a mountain pass located in the Vanoise National Park, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding high peaks, including La Grande Motte, La Grande Casse, and Pointe de Méan Martin. The pass is situated at an altitude of 2976 meters and is accessible via a challenging 12.4-km out-and-back trail that takes around 5 hours and 53 minutes to complete. The trail is great for hiking and offers stunning scenery, but it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. The area is also home to a glacier lake, Lac des Fours, which was created by the withdrawal of the Fond Glacier. The Col des Fours is a connection between the Maurienne and the Tarentaise region, and on the col, there is a large cairn with a letterbox
