Harilaid Nature Reserve

Nature reserve Saaremaa vald, Saare Maakond, Estonia

What to expect

The Harilaid Nature Reserve is a beautiful peninsula with an elongated shape and an undulated shoreline. It is covered with pine forest and features a lake, Laialepa Bay, which was formed from an old gulf. The shoreline of Harilaid is constantly changing due to the erosive-piling effect of the sea. The peninsula is home to a diverse range of plant species, including sea holly, sand couch-grass, and marsh pennywort. It is also a stopover area for migrant birds and a winter hibernation spot for the globally endangered Steller's eider. Visitors can explore the peninsula on hiking trails, including a 6km and 11km trail, and enjoy the beautiful coastal nature, including sandy beaches and dunes. The area is suitable for families and offers a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Estonia

This family's experience:

Activities: We went to the beach at Harilaid. "The Jungs let driftwood to water". "The sun shines from a bright blue sky, and it's just beautiful here."

Highlights: We had the beach all to ourselves. "We let ourselves be lulled by the sound of the waves". It was a beautiful place to spend time. The children enjoyed playing with driftwood ✨
