It gained the name 'Kiek in de Kök' from the ability of tower occupants to see into kitchens of nearby houses. The tower now serves as a museum and photographic gallery, showcasing historic warfare and the history of fortifications. The Kiek in de Kök Fortification Museum is a 500-meter-long complex featuring four historic towers and mysterious underground passages housing the Carved Stone Museum.
