Qaitbay’s Fort

Qaitbay Fort, also known as the Citadel of Qaitbay, is a 15th-century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean sea coast in Alexandria, Egypt. It was built from 1477 to 1479 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay on the site of the former Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The fort served as a defense against naval attacks and was an important part of the fortification system of Alexandria. It features a massive three-floored square fort with four half-circular towers, a courtyard, and several rooms. The citadel has undergone restoration and conservation operations over the years, including a major renovation in 2003. It is considered one of the most important defensive strongholds in Egypt and along the Mediterranean Sea coast
