Kom al-Dikka

Archaeological site Alexandria, Alexandria, Egypt

What to expect

Kom El Deka, also known as Kom el-Dikka, is a neighborhood and archaeological site in Alexandria, Egypt. It was a well-off residential area in the early Roman period, with large villas, and later became a major civic center with a bath complex, auditoria, and a theatre. The site provides significant archaeological evidence of urban life in Roman Egypt, including early villas, mosaics, and late Roman public works. The bath complex, constructed in the 4th century, features a unique design and was rebuilt twice after earthquakes. The auditoria, a complex of at least twenty lecture halls, served as a 'university' and demonstrate the abundance of study of rhetoric, philosophy, and medicine in Alexandria from the 5th to 7th centuries AD

This family's experience:

Activities: We walked to Kom al-Dikka from our hotel and explored the Roman ruins, including the only known Roman amphitheater in Egypt, villas, baths, classrooms and more

Highlights: DS loved the boats on the Corniche, but the road is busy and the sound of traffic can overpower the sound of the water ✨
