The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are a historical archaeological site located in Alexandria, Egypt. The site is a necropolis that features a unique blend of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman architectural styles. It consists of three levels of burial chambers cut into the bedrock, with a circular staircase leading down into the tombs. The catacombs contain a series of Alexandrian tombs, statues, and archaeological objects, including three huge stone sarcophagi with non-removable covers. The site also features the Hall of Caracalla, which contains the bones of horses. The catacombs were used as a burial chamber from the 2nd to the 4th century and were rediscovered in 1900. The site is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages and is a significant example of the cultural and artistic influences that characterized Alexandria during the Roman period
