Stevns Klint

Cliff Store Heddinge, Zealand, Denmark

What to expect

Stevns Klint, also known as the Cliffs of Stevns, is a white chalk cliff located on the Danish island of Zealand. The cliff is of geological importance as one of the best exposed Cretaceous-Tertiary boundaries in the world, providing exceptional evidence of the impact of the Chicxulub meteorite that crashed into the planet at the end of the Cretaceous, about 65 million years ago. The site harbors a record of the cloud of ash formed by the impact of the meteorite and an exceptional fossil record, showing the complete succession of fauna and micro-fauna charting the recovery after the mass extinction. Visitors can explore the cliff and its fossil-rich coastal area, which stretches 17 km along the coast. The cliff is also home to a Cold War museum, Stevns Fortress, which features a large exhibition of military equipment and a guided tour of the underground system of the fortress

Denmark Holidays on the Baltic Sea – Tips for Zealand, Lolland, Falster and Møn
This family's experience:

Activities: We visited Stevns Klint and walked along the cliffs, enjoying the views. We used the free telescopes to look towards the Öresund Bridge and the Møns Klint. We walked down to the sea via a steel staircase and saw the layers of fish clay. "I was particularly impressed by the small chapel on the edge of the cliffs."

Highlights: We enjoyed the amazing views and the walk along the cliffs. The scenery was stunning. Seeing the Stevns Klint in all their glory from below was very memorable. The chapel on the edge of the cliffs was also beautiful ✨
