Middelaldercentret Nykøbing Falster

Open-air museum Nykøbing F, Zealand, Denmark

What to expect

Middelaldercentret is an experimental living history archaeological open-air museum that depicts the Middle Ages in Denmark. It features a town built as part of a typical Danish market town with craftsmen, a harbour with ships and boats, and a market place. The employees are dressed in period costumes and live and work in the houses, doing everyday activities such as craftmanship, cooking, and weapon training. The museum has a variety of siege weapons, including trebuchets, a ballista, and a cannon, and offers live firing of the weapons, archery, knightly tournaments, and demonstrations of crafts and tasks from the late 14th century and early 15th centuries. Visitors can also participate in activities such as handling medieval weapons and trying their hand at medieval crafts. The museum is a great place for families to visit, with many interactive exhibits and activities that are suitable for children

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited the open-air museum, which recreates a Danish settlement from 1409. There are actors bringing the medieval setting to life, with a blacksmith, and a show with war machines. There was also an inventor's path and a magical path about legends

Highlights: The 12-year-old was surprised that the medieval village was interesting. We enjoyed the show with war machines ✨
