Råbjerg Mile

Dune Skagen, North Denmark Region, Denmark

What to expect

Råbjerg Mile is a migrating coastal dune between Skagen and Frederikshavn, Denmark. It is the largest moving dune in Northern Europe with an area of around 2 km2 and a height of 40 m above sea level. The dune contains a total of 4 million m3 of sand and moves in a north-easterly direction up to 18 metres a year. The area is an internationally important staging site for migrating raptors and a breeding site for the Eurasian golden plover and the wood sandpiper. Visitors can explore the dune and its surrounding heathlands, and it's also a great place to take dogs for a walk. The dune is a unique natural wonder, and its migrating sand has been a problem for the local population in the past, but it's now a popular tourist destination
