Frederiksborg Castle is a palatial complex situated on three islets in a lake, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century and is the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. The castle houses the Museum of National History, which contains the largest collection of portrait paintings in Denmark. Visitors can explore the castle's state rooms, including the restored Valdemar Room and Great Hall, as well as the Chapel and the Audience Chamber, which were largely spared by a fire in 1859. The castle's gardens are also worth visiting, with a symmetrical Baroque garden and a romantic English-inspired garden. The castle has a rich history, having been used as a royal residence and later as a museum, and offers a unique glimpse into Denmark's past
