What to expect

The Open Air Museum is a place where you enter a different world: the countryside of historic Denmark. It is not difficult to imagine yourself transported centuries back in time, strolling along the gravel roads and visiting the fully-furnished homes of the people of the past, such as the peasant, the wealthy miller, the village weaver or the inmates of the poorhouse. The museum features more than 100 buildings from rural environments and dating from 1650-1950, including a farmhouse from the island of Læsø thatched with kelp, and buildings from the Faroe Islands, as well as the former Danish possessions of Southern Schleswig in Germany and Scania and Halland in Sweden. The grounds of the museum also feature 25 historic gardens and cultural landscapes and livestock of old Danish breeds. The museum is a great place to visit with family and friends, with events arranged throughout the season, making it a recommended attraction for children
