What to expect

Svatý Jan pod Skalou is a municipality and village in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is known for the Baroque complex of the former Benedictine monastery, protected as a national cultural monument. The village is situated in a hilly landscape in the Hořovice Uplands and lies in the valley of the Loděnice River. The entire municipality is located within the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area, and most of the municipal territory is also protected as the Karlštejn National Nature Reserve. The place is rich in history, with the first written mention dating back to 1037. Visitors can explore the monastery, the rock church of the Virgin Mary, and the cave and spring of St. Ivan. The premises of the former monastery now house St. John College – Higher Vocational School of Pedagogy
