Sluj loupežníka Lotranda

Cave Velké Svatoňovice, Královéhradecký kraj, Czech Republic

What to expect

Sluj loupežníka Lotranda is a place located in the Jestřebí mountains near Malé Svatoňovice. According to history, a bandit named Sandman settled here in the 16th century and terrorized the local area, attacking merchants traveling from Červený Kostelec to Trutnov. The bandit is said to be the inspiration for Karel Čapek's book Devatero pohádek and the character of Lotrando in the story Lotrando and Zubejda. Legend has it that the bandit still appears in the area, but only targets disorderly tourists who litter or disturb the wildlife. Visitors can also explore the nearby Žaltman lookout tower and Lotrandova skála. The place offers a unique blend of history, legend, and natural beauty, making it an interesting destination for those exploring the Královéhradecký kraj region
