Vildenberk Castle

Castle Viničné Šumice, Jihomoravský kraj, Czech Republic

What to expect

Vildenberk Castle is a medieval castle located in the Czech Republic, specifically in the South Moravian Region. The castle was probably built in 1318 by Půt of Vildenberg and was one of the largest castles in Moravia during the Middle Ages. However, it was sold and abandoned at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Today, only parts of the masonry, surface tracks, and ditches have survived. The castle is situated near the village of Viničné Šumice, which is known for its vineyards and is the northernmost wine municipality in Moravia. The village has a population of around 1,400 inhabitants and is located about 12 kilometers east of Brno. Viničné Šumice has a stone cross from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, located in the center of the village, and a belfry. The area is also suitable for hiking and walking, with several routes available
