Trinidad is a town in the province of Sancti Spíritus, central Cuba, and one of the best-preserved cities in the Caribbean from the time when the sugar trade was the main industry in the region. The town proper is divided into quarters, and the whole municipality counts several wards. Trinidad's main industry is tobacco processing, and tourism from Western nations is a major source of income in the city. The city is located on the Caribbean coast near the Escambray Mountains and has a different microclimate to the rest of the island with temperatures ranging between 16° and 25°C with moderate subtropical weather. The architecture of this city combines characteristics of the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and its excellent state of conservation has been named as the City Suspended in Time. The most interesting building is the Plaza Mayor de la Santisima Trinidad. The city also has beautiful beaches, such as Playa Ancón, and a nearby islet with pristine beaches. Topes de Collantes, one of Cuba's premier ecotourism centres, is 20 kilometres from the city
