Matanzas, also known as the 'City of Bridges' and 'Venice of Cuba', is a city located on the northern shore of Cuba, on the Bay of Matanzas. The city is known for its poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore. It is situated near the popular beach resort of Varadero and the Zapata Peninsula, one of the most important ecosystems in Cuba. Matanzas is home to several museums, including the Pharmaceutical Museum and the Provincial Historic Museum, as well as the Sauto Theater, a National Monument. The city has a rich history, having been a major point in the defense of the island during the Cuban Revolution. Visitors can explore the city's charming Neoclassical-style colonial buildings, Catholic churches, and several bridges that cross the three rivers that traverse the city. The nearby Varadero Beach Resort offers 20 kilometers of beaches, 12 diving centers, sports installations, and a golf course, making it an ideal destination for families and travelers alike
