What to expect

The Franciscan Monastery is a large complex belonging to the Order of the Friars Minor, consisting of a monastery, a church, a library, and a pharmacy. It is situated at the Placa, the main street of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The monastery contains two cloisters, with the lower cloister being one of the finest Romanesque-Gothic buildings in the country, featuring 120 columns and 12 massive pilasters. The library contains over 20,000 books, including 1200 valuable old manuscripts and 137 incunables. The pharmacy, which dates back to 1317, is the oldest still-functioning pharmacy in Europe and the third oldest in the world. The complex also features a museum with various exhibits, including liturgical artifacts, paintings, and a 14th-century head relic of St Ursula
