Walled City

Historic district Cartagena, Bolivar, Colombia

What to expect

The Walled City, also known as the Old City of Cartagena, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit destination for families. This historic area is surrounded by 11 kilometers of imposing stone walls, which were built over two centuries to protect the city from pirate attacks. The walls offer panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and the city, and visitors can walk along its fortified edges, exploring the city's rich history and culture. The Old City is filled with iconic landmarks, including the Historic Wall, the Palace of the Inquisition, the Catedral de Santa Catalina de Alejandría, and the Clock Tower. Families can stroll through the maze-like streets, discovering vibrant bougainvillea flowers, intricate details of well-preserved 16th and 17th-century Spanish colonial buildings, and enjoying the city's unique charm. The Convento de la Popa, located just outside the Old City, offers one of the best panoramic views of Cartagena. The Old City Wall is also a great place to watch the sunset, and visitors can enjoy live music, traditional dance, and art exhibitions during festivals and high season
