Valle de la Luna

Desert San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta, Chile

What to expect

Valle de la Luna, or Valley of the Moon, is a unique geological formation located in the Atacama Desert, characterized by its enormous dunes, valleys, and hills of salt, rock, and sand. The valley has a fascinating landscape with various stone and sand formations carved by wind and water, resembling the surface of the Moon. Visitors can explore the area, which includes a small depression of salt ground with odd sculptural shapes, and enjoy breathtaking sunsets with colorful skies. The valley is part of the Reserva Nacional los Flamencos and was declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1982. It's an ideal place for activities like mountain biking and sandboarding, and its extreme aridity makes it an interesting location for scientific research
