What to expect

The SS Moyie is a historic sternwheeler located in Kaslo, British Columbia, on the south shore of Kaslo Bay on Kootenay Lake. It is the oldest intact passenger steam vessel of its type in the world and has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada. The ship was built in 1898 and operated for 59 years, providing marine service across Kootenay Lake. Today, visitors can tour the ship and learn about its rich history. The ship features a shallow-draft, wood-sheathed hull, a lightly built superstructure, and a single, stern-mounted paddle wheel. The Kootenay Lake Historical Society is the custodian of the SS Moyie and offers tours, exhibits, and a gift shop. The site also includes a visitor centre, archives, and other historic buildings, making it a great place to visit with family and friends to learn about the history of the region
