Buzludzha Monument

Monument Kazanlak, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria

What to expect

The Buzludzha Monument, also known as the Memorial building of the Bulgarian Communist Party, is a large ideological monument built in 1981 on the Buzludzha peak in central Bulgaria. The monument commemorates the events of 1891 when a group of socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organized socialist movement. The building is composed of a circle-shaped plate and a 70m high vertical axis, dominating the natural mountainous environment. The interior of the building features magnificent mosaics covering a total area of 937 square meters, presenting the struggles of the Bulgarian Communist party. The monument is an example of futurist architecture and is considered a masterpiece worth visiting, despite being abandoned and forgotten
