Pancharevo Lake is the largest body of water near Sofia, located 12 km southeast of the city center. It is an artificial lake, created in 1956, and is situated at 600 m above sea level between the Vitosha and Lozenska mountains. The lake is 3 km long and up to 700 m wide, reaching a depth of 30 m. The lake's western shore features the Pancharevo resort, the Pancharevo mineral springs, and the Sredets National Rowing Base, which specializes in training and water sports competitions. The eastern shore is occupied by oak and pine forests, and the slopes descend steeply to the water. The lake offers a recreation zone with picnic areas, a restaurant, a children's playground, and a pond for paid fishing. The fish world is represented by white fish, caracuda, catfish, trout, perch, and pike. Along the eastern shore of the lake passes a picturesque panoramic trail which reveals beautiful views of the Vitosha and Plana mountains.
