What to expect

The Boyana Church is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church located on the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The church is famous for its remarkable medieval frescoes, which date back to the 11th to 19th centuries. The church was built in three stages, with the oldest section being constructed in the late 10th or early 11th century. The church features a unique blend of architectural styles, with a mix of Byzantine, Romanesque, and Gothic elements. The frescoes in the church are considered some of the most important and well-preserved examples of medieval art in the Balkans. The church was declared a national antiquity in 1927 and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979
