Krepost Krakra, also known as Krakra Fortress, is a medieval fortress located in the city of Pernik, Bulgaria. The fortress has a rich history dating back to the 6th-5th century BC, with remains of an Ancient Thracian fortress found on the site. It was later built upon during the reign of Khan Omurtag in the 9th century AD. The fortress is named after Krakra of Pernik, a Bulgarian feudal lord who ruled over 36 fortresses in southwestern Bulgaria and is known for his resistance against the Byzantine Empire. The fortress withstood two sieges by Byzantine Emperor Basil II in 1004 and 1016. Today, the fortress features remains of fortress walls, residential buildings, and several churches, including a unique two-story tomb church. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the town and its surroundings from the fortress walls, which are equipped with platforms and lighting for a pleasant experience. The fortress is a popular spot for strolls and relaxation among locals and visitors alike
