What to expect

The Old Hermitage, located near Rila Monastery, is a historic site that hosts the Church of the Dormition of St. John of Rila. The church is a monolithic stone structure with a narthex and naos, featuring partially preserved frescoes similar in style to those found in the St. John the Theologian Chapel. Visitors can explore the cave where St. John of Rila spent his last years, as well as a holy spring with healing water and a rock from which the saint sent his prayers to God. The site is a place of prayer for many worshippers and offers a unique glimpse into Bulgaria's rich history and cultural heritage
