What to expect

Paraty is a preserved Portuguese colonial and Brazilian Imperial municipality with a rich history and culture. The historic center of the city, as well as four areas of the Atlantic Forest, were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019. The city is located on the Costa Verde, a lush green corridor that runs along the coastline of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. The town is surrounded by tropical forests, mountains, and waterfalls, and is dotted with many tropical islands. The temperature in Paraty ranges from 16 to 37 °C, and sea breezes temper the heat. Paraty has become a tourist destination, known for its historic town center and the coast and mountains in the region. Over 80% of its territory is protected by conservation units, including the Cairuçu Environmental Protection Area, Tamoios Ecological Station, and Serra da Bocaina National Park
