What to expect

The Grottes de Hotton, located in Wallonia, Belgium, is a unique site recognized as outstanding natural heritage. The caves are approximately 5 or 6 km long and 70 meters deep, featuring a stream called Syphon at the bottom. Visitors can take a guided tour, which lasts about 60 minutes, to explore the caves' extraordinary variety of shapes and colors of concretions, including delicate curtains made of stone. The tour takes visitors 65 meters underground, where they can discover an unknown underground river. The caves are also home to a rich and varied natural flora, specific to limestone soils, which can be seen in the nearby Calestienne garden. The site offers birthday party packages for children, including a caving trail, fun storytelling, and cake. The caves are not accessible to people with reduced mobility due to the 700 steps involved in the tour

Famenne-Ardenne with children: family holidays in Belgium
This family's experience:

Activities: We started our hike from Grottes de Hotton. "There is also a small playground" at the Grottes de Hotton. "We enjoyed the beautiful nature, which is now blooming in all imaginable shades of green, as well as the opportunity to stretch our legs after the long journey."

Highlights: We enjoyed the nature and the opportunity to stretch our legs. There were also cool climbing trees, mysterious cave entrances and the opportunity to cool our feet in the water. My children were only moderately impressed by the prospect of rock formations ✨
