Grand Place

Square Leuven, Flanders, Belgium

What to expect

The Grand Place, also known as the Grote Markt, is the central square of Leuven, located in the Flemish Brabant region of Belgium. The square has existed in its present form since the 14th century and features several historic buildings, including the Town Hall, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and the Church of St. Peter, a striking example of Brabantine Gothic architecture. The Grote Markt is often used for cultural and other events, such as the transformation of the square into a large flower carpet, and is surrounded by many pubs, taverns, and eateries. Visitors can also explore the nearby Oude Markt, dubbed the 'Longest Bar in the World', which is lined with numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants, making it a great place to enjoy a Belgian beer and soak in the vibrant atmosphere
