The Vienna State Opera is a historic opera house and opera company based in Vienna, Austria. It is one of the top opera addresses in the world, with first-class productions of the very highest caliber and a different program every day. The opera house was built from 1861 to 1869 following plans by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, and designs by Josef Hlávka. The building is also the home of the Vienna State Ballet, and it hosts the annual Vienna Opera Ball during the carnival season. The Vienna State Opera has a new venue called NEST, which offers music theater for children, teenagers, young adults, and families.
