What to expect

Graben is a pedestrianized shopping street in the center of Vienna, lined with upscale stores and stately buildings. The street was created in the 13th century when the moat from the Roman era was filled in. The name 'Graben' translates to 'ditch' or 'trench'. The street is home to various architectural styles, including Baroque, Jugendstil, and modernist buildings. The Pestsäule, a monument commemorating the end of the 1679 plague, stands at the center of Graben. The street is also surrounded by two fountains, Josefsbrunnen and Leopoldsbrunnen, dedicated to St. Joseph and St. Leopold respectively. Graben is a popular shopping destination, located near other famous shopping streets like Kohlmarkt and Kärntner Straße
