The Gänsehäufel is a wooded sand island in the Alte Donau in Vienna's Donaustadt district, used as a bathing facility. The island is about 20 hectares in size and can be reached via a bridge from the Kaisermühlen district. The name refers to the former 'Haufen' (deposited islands) that were used for goose breeding. The island has a long history, dating back to the Wiener Donauregulierung in 1870-1875, and has been used as a bathing facility since 1907. Today, it offers various amenities, including a FKK area, several beaches, sports and leisure facilities, and a high ropes course. The island also has a unique 'subculture' with rented cabins, which have become a typical feature of the Gänsehäufel. Families can enjoy the various activities and facilities, making it a great place to visit with children
