Donaukanal

Canal Vienna, Vienna, Austria

What to expect

The Donaukanal is a 17.3-kilometer-long water channel in Vienna, Austria, and a former arm of the Danube River. It is located near the city center and borders the Innere Stadt district, where the Wien River flows into it. The canal is crossed by 15 road bridges and 5 rail bridges. The paths on both sides of the Donaukanal are regularly used by joggers, cyclists, and skaters, and there are attempts to turn the area into a more attractive recreational space, with summer stages, flea markets, and cafes. Boat rides are available, and the Donaukanaltreiben Festival is held every year in June in several locations along the canal
