Zirbenweg

Trail Patsch, Tyrol, Austria

What to expect

The Zirbenweg is a popular panoramic trail located above Innsbruck, offering breathtaking views of the Inntal valley and the Karwendel mountains. The trail runs along the tree line at an altitude of around 2,000 meters between the Patscherkofel mountain station and the Tulfeinalm. It is a relatively easy hike, suitable for families, with a gentle incline and no significant changes in altitude. The trail takes you through one of the largest stone pine forests in Europe, with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The best time to visit is between June and October, with the alpine roses in bloom between late June and late July

Around Innsbruck: Hiking with children on the Zirbenweg
This family's experience:

Activities: We hiked on the Zirbenweg, a 7.5 km long panorama hike. We started at the Patscherkofelbahn mountain station and aimed for the Tulfeinalm. The hike involved some climbing over rocks, so good shoes were a must. The kids walked a lot themselves but were also carried at times

Highlights: The kids loved the views of Innsbruck, the Alpenrosen, and the fact that there was a reward at the end of the trail: the Kugelwald at Glungezer, and the Spielzeug (toys) at Tulfeinalm. The kids enjoyed the ‘herrlichen Geruch der Zirben’ (wonderful smell of the stone pines) and the Alpenrosen (alpine roses) ✨
