Melba Gully Glow Worms

Glow worm cave Lavers Hill, Victoria, Australia

What to expect

Melba Gully is a great place for families to visit, known as the Jewel of the Otways, it is one of the wettest places in Victoria. The area features the Madsens Track Nature Walk, a 35-minute loop through dense rainforest of Myrtle Beech, Blackwoods, Tree-ferns, low ferns, and mosses. During the day, visitors can see a variety of birds and maybe even spot a shy swamp wallaby, spot-tailed quoll, or platypus. At night, the area comes alive with nocturnal animals like possums and glow worms. The glow worms can be seen after dusk at various points along the Madsens Track Nature Walk, and visitors are advised to tread lightly, whisper, and keep their torches pointed downwards to avoid disturbing them. The area has a picnic area with gas barbecue and toilets, making it a great spot for a family day out
