Heron Island

Heron Island is a coral cay located near the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia. The island is about 800 metres long and 300 metres at its widest, with a highest point of 3.6 metres above sea level. It is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including over 200,000 birds, and is a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkelling. The island has a research station, which is one of the world's principal coral reef research stations, and a resort that offers accommodation and activities such as guided nature walks and star gazing tours. The island is also known for its turtle nesting and hatching seasons, and is a sanctuary for an extraordinary variety of marine life
