The site has been excavated and features the remnants of over 30 buildings, including early convict homes and businesses. The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre offers educational programs and tours, providing insights into the early urban life of Sydney's colonial history. The site is also home to the Sydney Harbour YHA, a youth hostel built elevated over the archaeological remnants
