250th Anniversary Sculptures

Sculpture Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

What to expect

The 250th Anniversary Sculptures in Sydney's Botany Bay commemorate the encounter between Aboriginal Australians and the crew of the HMB Endeavour, commanded by James Cook. The sculptures include 'The Eyes of the Land and the Sea', an abstraction of the ribs of the HMB Endeavour and the bones of the Gweagal totem the whale, and 'The Nuwi Canoes', a bronze sculpture representing the traditional canoes used by the Gweagal Clan. These sculptures are located along the shore of Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Kurnell, and offer a unique opportunity for visitors to learn about and reflect on the complex history of the area
