What to expect

The Walls of China is a unique feature on the southeastern edge of the Lake Mungo lunette, making for one of Australia's most unforgettable sights. The area features spectacularly-shaped sand and clay dunes, carved over thousands of years of erosion. Visitors can take a self-guided drive tour to the Walls of China viewing platform, which offers magnificent views across the famous World Heritage Willandra Lakes region. The platform is wheelchair-accessible and has step-free access from the carpark. The area is also home to historic relics of early Aboriginal culture, believed to be over 36,000 years old. The scenic desert views, combined with the rich cultural and historical significance of the area, make the Walls of China a great place to visit with family and friends
