The Site of Witness and Memory is a museum in Shkoder, Albania, that commemorates the victims of the communist regime. The museum is located in a former Catholic school that was used as an interrogation centre and torture chamber during the communist era. The building has been preserved to show the harsh conditions that prisoners endured, with 23 small cells, known as 'holes', where prisoners were kept before and during interrogation. The museum also features a red-painted corridor that symbolizes the suffering of the prisoners, as well as an exhibition room with objects and documents from the time. Visitors can also see the interrogation room, which has been kept in its original state, and a small library with prison literature. The museum aims to create a collective memory of the past and educate new generations about the mistakes of the past
