Lake Skadar, also known as Lake Scutari, is the largest lake in Southern Europe, located on the border of Albania and Montenegro. It is a karst lake with a surface area that seasonally fluctuates between 370 km2 and 530 km2. The lake is home to over 260 species of birds, including the rare Dalmatian Pelican and Pygmy Cormorant, and is a popular spot for birdwatching. The surrounding area is also home to traditional fishing villages, island monasteries, and pristine beaches. The lake has a rich history, having been part of the ancient Slav kingdom of Zeta and later a battleground for the Turks and Montenegrins.
